our background...
Dave grew up in Southern California and became a Christian at an
early age. After drifting away from the Lord, Dave recommitted himself to the Lord during his
4th year in college. Dave got involved with Campus Crusade for Christ at Cal Poly, Pomona where
he developed a burden for ministering to college students full-time.
In 1988, Dave graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Dave then joined Campus
Crusade's full-time staff and was assigned to work at San Jose State University. It was during
his four years at San Jose State that Dave met Jennifer.
Jennifer became a Christian in Jr. High school and got involved with Campus Crusade for Christ
as a freshman at Fresno State University. After her first year, she decided to transfer to San
Jose State University where she continued her involvement with Campus Crusade.
During her time in college, Jen led a Bible study, discipled four women, and participated in
two short-term missions projects. As a result of her ministry, Jennifer developed a desire to
minister to college students. After graduating in 1992 with a degree in English, Jennifer joined
Campus Crusade's full-time staff.
Dave and Jennifer were married in 1993 and ministered together with Campus Crusade for two
years at the University of Arizona, and two years at Fresno State University. Currently,
Dave and Jennifer are directing Campus Crusade ministry at the University of California at
Davis (UC Davis).
our vision...
Did you know that over the past 200 years, most of our revivals
and overseas missionary efforts were a result of revivals on American University Campuses?
College students are influencers in society. Therefore, reaching college students can be
strategic.
One of the major problems in America is the decline of moral values. A large factor to that
decline is that God has been taken out of our public school system. Our schools are no longer
teaching the Biblical values upon which our country was founded. As a result, we generally don't
have free access to the public school system as a forum for proclaiming the gospel and
encouraging morality.
But the University is different. The University has always been a place where the free exchange
of ideas is encouraged and promoted. As a result, Christians can openly proclaim the gospel in
the University setting.
However, God is not being presented as an option to today's college students. Students are being
bombarded with ideas such as new age philosophies and secular humanism. In addition, students
are encouraged to accept alternative lifestyles and free sex as morally acceptable.
Our ministry with Campus Crusade allows us to promote God as a viable option for students. It's
imperative that we reach as many college students as possible, for statistics show that it's
during the college years that most people form their philosophy of life. History shows us that
once a person adopts a philosophy of life, leading him/her to the Lord becomes increasingly
difficult.
purpose...
"And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every
man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in Christ."
Colossians 1:28
...the purpose of our ministry is to take the message of Jesus Christ to college & University
students. College students are easily influenced, easily motivated and typically, they become
the leaders of tomorrow. Therefore, we believe that reaching college students is strategic in
the overall goal of fulfilling the Great Commission.
evangelism
"preach the word; be ready in season and out of season...be
sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry."
2 Timothy 4:2,5
At the heart of our ministry is evangelism. We want to give every student an opportunity
to hear about how they can have a relationship with Christ. Evangelizing today's college student
is becoming increasingly more difficult. We find that we must become more and more creative in
the way that we expose students to the gospel. Much of what we do to expose students to Christ
is for the sake of cultivating.
discipleship
"And the things which you have heard from me in the presence of
many witnesses, these entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also."
2 Timothy 2:2
Another important part of our ministry is
discipleship. Our goal in the discipleship process is to help our students know Christ
and make Him known. In other words, we help them grow in their faith, but we also give them the
training they need in order to have a personal ministry of their own. Essentially, through our
discipleship process, we raise up more evangelists to help us reach the campus.
summer missions
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all
that I commanded you..." Matthew 28:19, 20
Most students aren't in school during the summer months.
This gives us a variety of ministry options during the summer. Summer assignments range from
taking Bible classes to short term missions projects. We also recruit students to participate
in short term missions, realizing that their involvement will help increase their vision for
reaching the world.
finances
"I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering
prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel
from the first day until now." Philippians 1:3-5
Like many other missions organizations, Campus Crusade for Christ staff members depend on the
consistent financial support of concerned individuals to carry on their ministry. Contributions
from individuals are the only source of income to support our ministry. Campus Crusade has no
central funds for paying salaries. In order to make our ministry possible, we must find
committed individuals who will become partners with us by contributing financially each month
to our ministry. This enables us to work full-time in our ministry while allowing our partners
to share in the fruit that our ministry bears.
