Recognizing Opportunities in New Jersey, Colorado,
& California
New Jersey
It was after 10:00 pm on a Friday night when the phone rang. It was Mike calling from
Ocean City,
New Jersey. It was after 1:00 on the east coast. What could possibly be the reason for Mike’s c
all?
As it turned out, Mike was simply trying to get a hold of us to share in his excitement. Mike had
arrived on the project only one week earlier. The project was in the midst of their “Killing the Giants”
week, a week where students are encouraged to step out in faith and face their fears in the area of
evangelism.
After a week of intense evangelism in the community, Mike and a friend decided to relax on their
Friday night off by heading to the local convenience store for a snack.
Mike wasn’t really planning on sharing his faith since he had done more evangelism in the previous
week than he could’ve ever imagined. Yet the Lord provided a tremendous opportunity for him
anyway.
Outside the convenience store, a man approached Mike and asked for directions. Mike gave him
directions and thought, “maybe I should talk to this person about Christ?”
Mike shared the gospel with him and amazingly he decided to entrust his life to Christ. Before
leaving he said, “I guess it was no accident that I approached you and asked for directions.”
By the end of the week, Mike had seen 8 students come to know Christ!
Colorado
Jennifer and I recently returned from our 10 day National Staff Conference in Ft. Collins, Colorado. It
was a great time to renew our vision and recommit ourselves to the fulfillment of the Great
Commission.
One of the highlights of our conference was the Jr./Sr. weekend. About 1400 junior and senior college
students from all over the country joined us for a weekend of our national conference. Jen and I were
pleasantly surprised to see Stephanie (one of our students) there that weekend.
After a very inspiring message from our speaker, students were challenged to commit themselves to
total submission to the Lord - to go whereever He leads and to do whatever He commands.
Nearly all 1400 students rose up out of there seats and responded to the invitation of commitment by
making their way to the front stage. It was truly an incredilbe sight to behold.
We are convinced that the Lord is going to use college students in an incredible way to help fulfill His
Great Commission.
It’s for this reason that we are more excited than ever to be reaching out to students at UC Davis with
the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. We believe that the Lord wants to raise up an army of students
from UC Davis who will take the message of Christ to the ends of the earth.
California
On our flight back to California, I sat next to a gentleman named Valdimir. After conversing for
awhile, Vladimir leaned back in his chair and appeared to be trying to get some sleep.
I was anxious to talk to him about Christ but had not been able to easily transition into the topic of
spiritual things. I prayed that the Lord would provide an obvious opportunity.
The Lord answered my prayer a few minutes later when Vladimir turned to me and asked, “what is
that you said that you do?”
After explaining my ministry with college students, I asked Vladimir if I could share the 4 Spiritual
Laws with him. He agreed and I was able to share the message of Christ with him.
Pray for Vladimir. He is a Christian, but he has drifited away from Christ and hasn’t attended church
in over 10 years.
And pray for us too. We are back in California raising support and preparing for our ministry in the
fall.
Pray that the Lord would continue to open our eyes to opportunities to share Christ with others.
