As you read this newsletter, we will have been on campus for about 5 weeks,
which is halfway
through our first quarter.
Little did we know that when we set foot on campus on September 27 that we would
encounter
more spiritual battle and opposition than we have ever experienced during our time on staff
with Campus
Crusade. The beginning or the year has been challenging for many reasons.
We had a lot of opposition on campus from different people who said that we couldn’t do
questionnaires on campus. We were out in front of the bookstore and the manager came out and
said that
we could not be there passing out questionnaires. We knew that we had a right to be there, so
we checked
it out with the administration and they said that what we were doing was perfectly fine. We
managed to do
about 2000 questionnaires, but we were a little discouraged because we thought we would be able
to do
more. But God is faithful, and we were excited to be able to do 2000 questionnaires.
Another issue that has come up over and over again since the beginning of the year has
been
relational issues. Dave and I have had to talk to quite a few students who have either had moral
issues that
have come up, or have issues with others in the group that they are not dealing with in an
appropriate way.
Because of all of the relational issues, Dave and I decided to do a series of talks on the
Body of Christ and
our relationships with one another.. Dave started the series on October 14 with a talk on
“Taming the
Tongue”. He did an awesome job, and many of the students commented to Dave that they really
learned a
lot from the talk. In fact, one student emailed Dave and said that the talk helped her
tremendously.
Last
year when we started our group here at UC Davis, we were small and our group bonded very well.
Now we
are experiencing some fun and exciting growth. But along with the growth, the students are
learning how
to relate to each other in a healthy and positive way. Please keep us in your prayers as we
face this new
year.
We have about 6 students who have been helping us contact students from the questionnaire. We
also have 4 students who are going to lead Bible studies. It is so exciting to see these students step up and
begin to invest their lives in other students.
3 weeks ago Dave had the privilege of seeing 2 young men become Christians! Dave had
appointments with both of these men from the questionnaires that we passed out. One of the men, Andrew,
became a Christian on a Tuesday, and then 2 days later he came to our weekly meeting. On Friday night
we all went bowling and then to ice cream, and Andrew came with us! And our students were so
encouraged and excited to see this brand new Christian hanging out with us. It really motivated our
students to contact many students from the questionnaires.
