Keep Your Hands Inside the Vehicle at All Times
Riding the Roller Coaster of our Personal and Spiritual Lives

Over the last month, Jennifer and I have experienced a roller coaster of emotions in our personal and professional lives. Hop on while we take you through the roller coaster ride of our lives. Remember to keep your hands inside the vehicle at all times!

HIGH

We came back from our Christmas Conference on an emotional and spiritual high.

LOW

However, on January 1st, Jen’s grandfather was admitted to the hospital complaining of pain in his head.

Jen’s grandfather was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, but was in good physical condition. None of us were expecting the rapid decline which resulted in his passing on January 20th.

Rupert Hawley spent 30 years in the Navy and retired as a captain. The funeral was the following week. It was a very nice ceremony, complete with a 21 gun salute and military honors.

HIGH

In the midst of this, Jen and I have tried to provide leadership to our growing ministry. Over 10 students have made decisions for Christ since the beginning of the quarter. In addition, we have nearly doubled in size since last quarter. We now have two staff members who have joined our team. They have been a blessing to us and our ministry and God is already using them to bring new students to Christ and into our group.

LOW

With so much happening in our ministry, our schedules have become almost unmanageable. Not only are we training two new staff, but Jen and I are each leading 3 Bible studies on campus, in addition to a couples Bible study we’ve been leading through our church.

To accomodate all that’s going on, Jen has had to schedule 2 Bible studies on Tuesday night. She leaves at 6:00 p.m. and usually doesn’t get home until after 11:30. Dave on the other hand has had to schedule his discipleship group for 6:00 on Friday morning.

Things are so crazy that we’ve had to temporarily put our couples Bible study on hiatus until we return from our summer assignment.

HIGH

Jen and I have started the process of adoption.

LOW

The adoption process is incredibly detailed and time-consuming. We’ve struggled to find time to get all the paperwork done.

SHARP CURVE

We told ourselves we wouldn’t do this while pursuing adoption, but we’ve been looking at buying a house here in Davis. We decided we needed to consider this move because our rent here in Davis is going up very rapidly.

HIGH & LOW

In the midst of all this, Dave is taking another seminary class. It’s been very rewarding, yet very time consuming as you can imagine.

APPROACHING THE DEPOT

Whew! We made it through and we’re still alive. We would so much appreciate your prayers for us - that we would be able to catch our breath and rest up a bit before we get back on for another ride!
