On May 4th at 5 in the morning our phone rang. Whenever the phone rings very early in
the morning, you know that something serious has happened. No one calls that early just to
chat.
The call was from some friends of Dave’s parents. They were calling to tell us that
Dave’s parent’s house had burned down. We were also told that their 2 dogs were lost in the
fire.
We were in shock. Dave’s parents were on vacation, so the family had to contact them to
give them the news. When Dave talked to them, they were in shock, but they were most saddened
by the loss of their dogs.
When Dave and I picked them up from the airport on May 8, they were still in shock, but
the one thing that impressed us was the fact that they knew that God had a plan. I was amazed
at their trust in God and His promises for their life.
Dave went up to Groveland and spent a few days to help them as they met with the
insurance adjusters.
This whole situation has reminded me of what is important in life: God, His Word, and
His people. Those are the things that are going to last for eternity. Everything else will
fade away. It reminds me of a passage in the Bible that is one of my favorites:
“ For I know the plans I have for you”, say the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to
harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11-13
Please pray for Dave and his parents during this very difficult and emotional time.
Even though they know that God is sovereign and has a plan, it is always difficult to cling to
His promises when we are in the midst of trials.
SUMMER PROJECT IN FULL SWING
Yea! Ocean City! We are so excited to be on this summer project. We have such fond
memories of Ocean City.Jennifer spent the summer of l991 here as a student, and in l995 we
spent the summer here as a couple on staff.
This summer, Dave is the administrator of the project, handling all of the finances.
This is a HUGE job. Jennifer is on the executive team, helping to give direction to the project
as a whole. She will be working with and helping to develop the staff on the project. Dave
will also have a bible study of 4 students that he will be discipling.
Pray for the project as a whole. Pray that the students and staff would continue to
grow in their walk with the Lord.
SUMMER PROJECT IN FULL SWING
We had such an exciting time back in Davis before we left. We had our first leadership
retreat on May 5. We went up to Tahoe and had a planning time with 10 of our sharpest students.
They had so many great ideas! The next night we had about 40 students over for a barbecue to
share about what we would be doing in the fall. Here are just a few highlights:
- The students want to have a Luau to meet new people and reach out to the campus.
- We want to have our band play on campus the first day of school to attract students and
tell them about our group.
- The day before school starts the students want to do some sort of outreach to the
non-Christian students to share Christ with them.
