One of the exciting new things about campus ministry is the ability to meet people through the
internet. Dave has done a wonderful job with our website for the ministry here at UC
Davis.
School started on September 28, and about a week before school started we received an email
from an incoming freshman named Jenny. Here is what her email said:
“I am an incoming freshman and I am also just starting to explore Christianity. I am looking
for an organization that I can get involved with to help me better understand it. I never
attended church with my family and I have just recently started to attend with my boyfriend so
I know very little about Christianity but would like to learn more. I am a little nervous
about my embarrassing level of ignorance. But my interest is very high. Am I looking in the
right place?”
When I finished reading the email, I was so excited about meeting Jenny! We finally hooked up
on campus the day before school started. I brought a student along with me named Rachel, who
is leading a freshman women’s Bible study in Jenny’s dorm.
As Rachel and I sat down with Jenny, I immediately fell in love with her sweet spirit and her
desire to know Jesus. I shared the Four Spiritual Laws with her, and when I asked her at the
end of the booklet if she wanted to begin a personal relationship with Christ, she got a huge
smile on her face and said she really wanted to. After she prayed, she began crying. She was
so excited about her new faith in Christ.
The next day I met with Jenny to start a Bible study with her that goes over the foundations
of the Christian life. She had so many great questions. At the end of our time together, she
said “you know, Jen, I feel like my whole life I have been looking at life through a haze, like
through Saran Wrap or something! Thank you for showing me how to remove the Saran Wrap from
my eyes!”
KIRKS E-MAIL
Last week, I received the following e-mail from a student who had visited our website:
“I have spent most of my life as an agnostic, believing I was a good person with bad luck.
This summer I have had some extraordinary experiences which I can only explain as being
convicted as a sinner. Prior to these experiences, I had spent some time investigating New Age
spirituality. This included attempts at becoming a better person through meditation. If
anything, my sinfulness and lust for the flesh only increased as I tried to make sense of the
world through the study of the esoteric traditions.
The clearest message I have gotten from my summer is that a life of sin leads to Hell. Of the
world's religions, the Christian message provides the best explanation of my life. I am
interested in talking more about this with someone at Campus Crusade for Christ.”
Pray for me as I meet with Kirk & share Christ with him.
FALL QUARTER STARTS OFF WITH A BANG!
God blew us away the first week of school! Here are some of the incredible things that He
did:
† On Monday, Sept. 25 we had a praise nite with over 80 students, and most of those were
freshman!
† On Tuesday nite we went into the dorms and started meeting with the people we did
questionnaires with. One of our students met with 2 guys who received Christ.
† On Wednesday, Sept. 27 we had a freshman barbecue with about 70 attending.
† Our first weekly meeting on the first day of school had 115 people. Praise God for His
faithfulness!
PLEASE PRAY FOR US AND OUR MINISTRY!
- Pray for Jenny and her new faith in the Lord! Pray also for the many students like Jenny
that we have seen come to Christ. Pray that they would grow in their knowledge of who God is.
- Pray for the freshman class at UC Davis. Pray that they would be open spiritually, and
that we would be able to follow up on all of the questionnaires that we did. (We did 2000
questionnaires)
- Pray for us as we direct this ministry. Pray for our walks with the Lord. Pray we would
lead from a spiritual base, and that God would be teaching Dave and I many new things.
- Pray for us as we continue to get our house spruced up! We are so thankful to the Lord for
our home.
- Pray for us as we continue to wait on the Lord through the adoption process.
