CORE. That was the theme of this year’s Christmas Conference. But what is CORE?
Does it mean “intense” as in “hard core”? Or does it mean something else?
Actually, CORE refers to what’s in the center, or what’s underneath all the layers.
It’s who you are at the core of your being. It’s not just what’s on the outside that people
see, but it’s who we are becoming on the inside. The idea behind our theme was to change from
the core of our being, not just the outside layers that everyone sees.
Before the conference even started, we were excited because we had over 40 students from UC
Davis who were signed up to attend. This was about twice as many as last year and it reflects
the amazing growth we’ve experienced as a ministry.
By all accounts, the conference was a tremendous success. On the last day of the conference,
we met as a campus and began to share what we had learned and the decisions that had been
made.
Jennifer and I were deeply moved as we heard students share their experience.
One student who is a young believer openly confessed his sinful relationship with his
non-Christian girlfriend. Being at the conference helped him to see his need to end the
relationship.
Another student shared her struggles in evangelism. Yet on the Day of Outreach, she stepped
out in faith and saw God move dramatically. Seeing someone come to Christ gave her a whole
new perspective on reaching the lost.
Still another student expressed her apprehension in coming to the conference. But now she
couldn’t imagine not coming to the conference.
One of the biggest benefits of the Christmas Conference is the exposure that students get to
Campus Crusade ministry opportunities. We have been praying that 20 students would go on
summer missions projects this summer. As a result of the conference, we already have about
15 students who are in the process of applying to go on a project.
Thank you for your continued prayers for us and our ministry. Your prayers and financial support are helping to change students at the core of their being.
