Mapping out Our
Future
When I walked into the store, there were maps everywhere. Just about any kind
of map you could think of was there. There were maps of California, maps of the
United States, maps of big cities and maps of small cities. Maps of other
countries and maps of other counties.
I was looking for a world map. And not just any world map but a BIG
world map.
You see, since we began this ministry, our vision was always that we would
somehow through our efforts be able to influence the world. Sure, we want to
reach students at UC Davis for Christ, but that’s only part of the equation.
All over the world there are people who have never heard the gospel. We want to
take it to them. Our desire is that UC Davis students would take the gospel to
the four corners of the globe.
I was looking for a BIG map because we desire to have a BIG influence
on reaching the world for Christ.
I found just the map I was looking for. It was four feet tall by six feet
wide—big enough to see all the countries and many of the larger cities in
those countries.
At our Christmas Conference, I pulled out the map and told our students, “this
is our destination—the world.”
I then invited students who have been on summer projects through our ministry
before to come up and place a small yellow dot on the map where they had been.
One by one, small yellow dots became visible, representing destinations where UC
Davis students have been. Hopefully, in the next couple of years, that map will
be littered with dots, demonstrating that UC Davis students are taking the
gospel to the world.
“I was looking for a BIG map
because we desire to have a BIG influence on reaching the world for Christ.”
Our vision is starting to become a reality. This next summer, a staff couple
on our team is leading a missions team to Shymkent, Kazakstan. Many of our
students are planning to join them.
This team is just one part of a partnership that our region has established
with this city. The goal is that within 5 years, we will establish several new
campus ministries in this city and raise up nationals who will lead and direct
the ministry. When that happens, we will move on to another city or country.
Another aspect of this partnership, is sending Short Term International
teams (STINT) over for a year or two at a time to help expand on the ministry of
the summer project.
This Spring, we will graduate the first group of students from our ministry.
At least two of them are applying to go to Shymkent for a one year STINT. A few
other students are thinking about joining Campus Crusade’s full-time staff, to
help reach other students on other campuses and in turn send them to the world.
Please pray for us and our ministry, that we would be a ministry that reaches
not just UC Davis, but the entire world!
The Waiting is Over—Adoption
Finally Becomes Legal
On December 11th, we became the proud parents of twin boys—Jacob Parker
Lowe and Joshua Dylan Lowe.
Up until then, we were considered foster parents. After our 6 month
evaluation period, we were able to go before the county judge and legalize our
adoption.
Needless to say we are relieved that that part of the process is over.
However, the hard part of raising these boys is just barely beginning.
Both Jacob and Joshua have gotten their two lower and two upper front teeth
in. Joshua has a 3rd upper tooth that has just poked through.
Both boys are rolling around and seem close to the point of crawling. They
are getting better at eating solid foods and they now enjoy grabbing Cheerios
and Corn Chex off of their high chair tray and attempting to put it in their
mouth. Most of it ends up in the their seat but they are learning more and more
about how to feed themselves.
Please check out our website to see pictures of our twin boys.
