You may or may not know that the mission statement of
Campus Crusade for Christ is: Turning lost
students into Christ-centered laborers.
This mission statement concisely and accurately
reflects our commitment to evangelism and discipleship.
However I sometimes think our mission statement should
be changed to: Turning lost students into
Christ-sent laborers.
You see, thirty-two times in the gospels, Jesus refers
to himself as one who is “sent” by the Father. Jesus was on a mission—He
was sent by the Father to seek and save the lost; to release the captives; to
set men and women free spiritually.
One of the last references to Jesus as one who is sent
is in John 20:21, where Jesus says, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent
Me, I also send you.”
Just as Jesus was sent to fulfill a mission that was
given by the Father, so we are sent by Jesus to fulfill the Great Commission
that He’s given to us. Since the beginning of our ministry, it has been our
desire to “send” students into the harvest to help us accomplish our goal of
reconciling lost souls to the Savior.
At our last meeting of the school year, we pulled out
our 4’ x 6’ wide world map and began to trace the history of this ministry
and all of the places we have sent students.
We then called up all the students who are going
somewhere this summer to serve as missionaries.
It was an incredible feeling to see nearly 30 students,
including some from other Christian groups on campus, who all have committed
themselves to serve on a Campus Crusade summer missions project.
As we outlined all the places we’ve been and where we’re
going this summer, it was amazing to see that in the last five years, we’ve
sent nearly 100 students to 23 different summer project destinations.
We are especially excited that we have 9 students going
overseas this summer, all of whom will be returning as leaders in our ministry
next year. This means that our ability to increase the awareness among our
students about the great need for Christ outside of the U.S. will be greatly
multiplied.
We have students going to Mexico City, Azerbaijan, the
Middle East, Peru, France, Japan and Australia as well as numerous locations
stateside.
In addition, we have six students who will be
committing to a year of full-time ministry next year. Three of the students will
be serving with us at UC Davis, helping us to accelerate our ministry. Two other
students will be serving in Shymkent, Kazakhstan, while another one of our
graduates will be serving full-time in Mexico City.
Because of your commitment to us, you are helping to
send Christ-”sent” laborers to people all over the world who have never
heard about Jesus. Thanks so much for your prayers and your partnership!
Pray for students on summer projects. Pray
that God would develop them as leaders.
Pray for those serving full time next
year. Pray that they would all raise the funds they need.
Pray for us as we travel this summer and
as we prepare for leading a new and bigger team next year.
Pray for us as we raise funds for our
personal ministry and for the operating budget. We need to raise about $600 in
new monthly support.
Pray for our marriage and pray for us to
be good parents.
Pray for Jacob and Joshua to grow up to
know the Lord and be godly men.
