Hooray for Hollywood
Over Spring Break, nearly 20 of our students traveled to Hollywood to help Campus Crusade’s L.A. Metro team launch ministries on 3 new campuses.
The first day, we spent several hours at L.A. Pierce Community College. Students passed out books on the life of Jesus and fliers inviting students to free pizza and a short talk on the Passion movie.
The weirdest part of the experience that day was that I met Dave Lowe. That’s right, the guy who is helping to give leadership to the Christian club on that campus is named Dave Lowe.
Meeting Dave was like meeting myself in Bizarro world. In many ways he is my opposite. He’s tall, I’m short. He’s thin, I’m “less thin”. He’s got hair, I’m folliclely challenged.
We were able to help the group get connected with about 30 new students who showed some interest in being involved in a Christian club.
The second day, we spent our time at Glendale Community college. There was a lot more activity on this campus and we were able to engage students more easily in spiritual conversations.
In fact, we saw three students come to Christ as a result of our time there. Please pray for these two campuses as well as Occidental College where several of our students spent two days gathering information and talking to students in preparation for launching a ministry there.
Pray that the students on these campuses would be exposed to the message of Christ and that our L.A. Metro team would be able to get ministries up and running on these campuses.
Pray also for our students to be more sensitive to the lost as a result of our time in Hollywood during Spring Break.
Eggstra, Eggstra...Read All About It
Our first week back from Spring Break, we launched our biggest outreach of the year.
Students put together 2500 plastic Easter eggs to hand out to students on campus.
Inside the eggs were candy and a small flier inviting students to a talk on “Reasons to Believe in the Resurrection.”
In addition, we erected a 8 foot high by 8 foot wide grafitti wall that was tagged with the question, “What does Easter Mean 2 U?”
Students passing by were invited to write their responses on the wall. Those who did were engaged in spiritual conversations regarding their views on Easter and their views of Jesus Christ.
Our students also continued to give out the Life of Jesus/More than a Carpenter flipbooks that we have been handing out to non-believers since the Passion movie was released on Ash Wednesday.
To date, we have passed out more than 800 copies of the book to students on campus.
About 200 students came to hear the talk but we are not aware of any new decisions to trust Christ.
Please pray for those who came who do not know Christ personally.
Pray also for us to continue to be bold in promoting Jesus Christ on campus to students who do not know Him.
Prayer Requests
- Pray for our 30+ students who are venturing out this summer on summer missions projects. Pray for all of their support to come in. Pray also that this summer would be a life-changing experience for all of them.
- Pray for our new leaders as we transition to our new leadership teams over the weekend of May 14-16.
- Pray for many students to attend our Spring retreat May 14-16. This weekend will be a key time of planning for next year and getting students excited about being involved in Campus Crusade next year.
- Pray for us as we make plans for our summer. We are scheduled to take a 1 month sabbatical during our summer.
- Pray also for our financial support. We need to raise additional personal support this summer to make up for lost support, inflation and rising health costs which have been passed on to us.
- Pray for our family to experience times of refreshment and bonding.
- Pray for each of us personally that we would be growing in our relationship with the Lord and experiencing His power lived through us on a daily basis.
- Thank you for your partnership with us in reaching students for Christ!
